Paterson finally does something right
One event that is going well and should actually be a draw for the Rochester area (Maggie Brooks finally jumped on the bandwagon), the Roc City Ribfest, has been proclaimed a state championship by NYS Governor David Paterson.
Roc City organizers announced that due to size, 21 teams have enrolled so far, [...]

Roc City Ribfest ‘09
The extended version
The 2009 Roc City Ribfest has been scheduled though, as of yet, I believe without a location.
A single day and single category event last year, the ‘09 version is a fully sanctioned KCBS event with ribs, pork shoulders, brisket and chicken.

Rib Fest Results Show
Ouch
Having never competed in one before my first BBQ competition was a humbling experience. Fortunately it was a learning experience from which I have emerged more confident.
The scores for both the Competitor and Vendor categories are up on the Roc City Rib Fest website.
What did I learn? I learned I need to invest [...]

Beer Madness
Nothing better than getting piss ass drunk and watching a little NCAA basketball in March. To go along with March Madness this season the Washington Post has its own Beer Madness.
I mention this because my favorite brewery, Leinenkugel’s, has an entry among the field of 32 in the Specialty bracket. Leine’s Sunset Wheat [...]

Our Bald-Headed Hero is the Next Iron Chef
Symon’s cooking, personality prevails
Michael Symon bested John Besh in Kitchen Stadium to become FoodTV’s Next Iron Chef.
With a theme ingredient of swordfish each chef seemed comfortable but it was Symon who shone brightest. It must be remembered that this is television and Iron Chef is, ultimately, entertainment. Symon’s banter throughout the cooking showed a chef [...]

Binghamton Voted Pierogy Capital
There is a stretch of the United States that begins in the Midwest and runs northeast up to New England that consumes the majority of all pierogies eaten in the country.
Known as the “Pierogy Pocket” there has been a search recently, on the part of Mrs. T’s foods, to find the capital of this area. [...]

Next Iron Chef: Symon in Finals
Kitchen Stadium will decide
It was pretty clear heading into the final three on FoodTV’s Next Iron Chef that Cosentino was the next to go having hardly survived over Sanchez the week before and his ultimate elimination this week was anything but a surprise.
While not suspenseful the episode was a nice precursor for the showdown finale [...]

Next Iron Chef: Symon Rolls On
Symon emerges as front-runner in final three
Haven’t I seen this episode before? I seem to remember already seeing testy chefs yelling at poorly placed camera operators while trying to pack gourmet cuisine into plastic containers at which point they would be frozen and (shudder) reheated before serving. Oh wait, that was Bravo’s Top Chef.
Taking a [...]

Next Iron Chef: Code of the Samurai Chef
Twice the fun with two eliminations on Sunday night’s Next Iron Chef from the Food Network. Resourcefulness was the name of the game this evening with the remaining chefs allowed to choose each others ingredients.
Cosentino and Symon chose for one another and went the route of the Chef Samurai selecting ingredients with realistic combination possibilities. [...]
